The drive takes about 3 hours, depending on traffic and road conditions. Along the way, you’ll pass through small villages, coastal farmland, and rolling hills – offering you a fascinating glimpse into Kenya’s rural life and ever-changing landscapes. It’s a scenic journey that gradually transitions from lush greenery to the warm, arid tones of the African savannah.
As soon as you enter the park, the adventure begins. The striking red earth, open savannah landscapes, and winding trails instantly immerse you in the wild beauty of authentic Africa. Early wildlife sightings are common. A key highlight is your visit to Kanderi Swamp, a lush area that regularly attracts herds of red elephants and buffaloes. With a bit of luck, you might even spot lions resting in the shade.
At midday, you’ll enjoy lunch at the scenic Voi Safari Lodge, which offers panoramic views over the park’s vast plains and nearby waterholes – a perfect place to take in the surroundings.
In the afternoon, your journey continues as you cross into the Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary. By late afternoon, you’ll arrive at the iconic Salt Lick Safari Lodge, known for its one-of-a-kind stilted architecture and its location right in the heart of wildlife territory. After check-in, you’ll have time to relax before sitting down for a delicious dinner.
